Company of Fools – 5 Star Reviews

Hello – Reviews i’m told are only part of the whole book sales and marketing cycle. I’m new to this so i’ll take the words of those who have trodden this well beaten path before me and done it successfully too.

Hopefully in I to, may be a party to this exclusive club, for now here is what i hope will be ‘one of many’.

Customer Review

Andrew Newton 5.0 out of 5 stars A fun book that rides to rollercoaster of a high pressure sales environment

Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 16 September 2020. A great, amusing book. For anyone who has been in a sales environment and the crazy stuff that goes on there, this is an amusing read that rings true! A fun novel to spend some leisure time with if you want to experience the highs and lows of working in a high pressure sales environment.

Company of Fools is available on ;

For UK customers I can sign a copy if you are wanting to purchase a copy – let me know and I can purchase on your behalf, sign it and forward on (I accept paypal ).

I’m hoping to at some stage (depending on sales and for things to be ‘more open’) in the current environment to have a author slot at a local library – again where i can carry out signings and discuss my book and other writing work i’m currently engaged in.

Finally for those thinking of Christmas (Yes, I know its that time already), I have a E-book entitled – Poems for the Festive Season (On amazon and Goodreads)

The Journey (the 5th in the Traveller Diaries)

hummingbird-1047836_1280

The journey started in 68

Like the hypnotic humming of a bird

Even back then I was always late

To be early would be absurd

We start our unknown journey

With no destination sight

With hopes to become attorney?

And the power it gives to take flight?

My train keeps on going

There is still fuel in the tank

A year older means more puffing and blowing

Mouth wide open, expression almost blank

I continue to perform the ‘Swan’

Cool and calm is the top line view

Inside pistons fire like a mad man

You never want to reveal the real you

Another year is added to my number

Its birthday time on the horizon again

Yester year I had time to slumber

But now, it’s a huge thank you to all my friends

No Shower in the Tower

Our first family trip to Blackpool was a ‘roasting’ success,  with southern Spain style temperatures being delivered over our weekend. The amazing circus display was simply magnificent.  The sealife centre, thrilling, educational,  interesting and exciting for parents and our two children alike. The walks along tbe south pier until gone 1030pm, summed up how holidaying on the uk coast can be enjoyed,  particularly with near 30 degree heat!

Our hotel, smart, friendly,  helpful and family orientated with a touch of class and great food, all within a stones throw of the tram and bus service that ran along the Promenade. Directly behind our hotel stood the Pleasure Beach. This, a mammoth selection of roller coaster rides for the brave and some others for the less thrill seeking, chilled  riders and of course rides for children. Our two loved the car rides, the train that took us throughout the pleasure beach (a good distance I might add) as the area was huge to cover on foot.

All in all a surprising,  entertaining,  well stocked 3 day break, with superb weather,  activities for all, lovely hotel (with great family rooms too for your children and adults,  plenty of space for 4 separate area for kids bunk beds). Would we go again? Our children replied by saying they want 4 days next time! Well entertainment is guaranteed,  weather,  well someone else has that power I’m afraid….so in poetic homage to our weekend away here is a little ditty.

Brilliant sunshine won the day

Lazing about with my family,  what more can I say

An amazing time was had by all

Circus stupendous we certainly had a ball

Kicking our heels we weren’t for sure

Pleasure beach in the sun- could we ask for more?

Organised views with so much to see

Oh how we were tempted, oh how we were teased

Leaving ‘the pool’ our children wanted to stay

They loved every minute, of every single day

Only the call of those darn 2p machines

Would allow us to bribe them, to eat up their greens!

Evening would come and we’d be ready for bed

Remembering a fun filled enjoyable time – enough said!

The Journey (the 4th in the Tube Traveller Diaries)

st panc

Where I arrive and leave…

Where to start

maybe at the beginning

Train was late

Left my head spinning

worried about the underground

headache on the way

change of plans in effect

Taxi – is now the order of the day

missed the rocking and rolling

the warm stuffy atmosphere

missed the close proximity

of not being on board there

waiting ages for mr. black cab

we debated the scrouge of Mr Uber

the conversation was anything but drab

heading for a Brunei owned park lane hotel

I only do upmarket you see

the doorman open my taxi door

there I was, out stepped, little old me

the deed was done

the return was now planned

Green Park Tube was calling me

for today however; the tube was banned

green park

The name actually makes sense…parks are usually green…

maybe on another day

me and my TFL travellers will unite

enjoying the flexible JOURNEY

that operates any day and any night..

The Tube Traveller Returns (2nd in the Tube Traveller Diaries)

there's more underneath than above...

there’s more underneath than above…

Yes i’m back like Arnie

Sitting next to suited man eating his sarnie

The tube rocks this way and that

As the painted lady opposite loses her ascot style hat

The reader person buries their head in a book

The nervous tube rider doesn’t know where to look

The drooling old man, slides on to the shoulder of the women next door

Her perfume turns him on more and more

The hi-vis jacket looks on talking to his mate

Ready to hit the sites on time – cannot afford to be late

The college student check their mobile phone

Typing frantically, totally engaged, always ‘in the zone’

The tourists enter looking for a way out

London’s an easy city to navigate – that i have no doubt

There’s usually a helper, just be careful who you ask

Your choice may leave you having to wear a mask

Yes a mask to hide your false indignation

You play like you don’t understand, as you’re from another nation

Those riders exist in every corner of our travelling sphere

A sharp hard looking face that they want us all to fear

Never mind, the smiling riders operate with consummate glee

Replacing the misery guts, they don’t charge a fee

The busy, hectic rider checks their watch looking fraught

The smiling group can’t help them out, there are other battles to be fought

The relaxed rider, does this every day, sitting all smug and composed

So often in fact they can miss their stop, as they’ve had their eyes closed

Not so for the city man or woman, in their suit, tie, or skirt

When the tube reaches bank or moorgate, they are always ready and alert

The wandering eye man, circumvents the direct stare

The college female students better watch out, better beware

The opportunist take their chance to stay close

What they do afterwards I can only call verbose

So my journey observations leave me all mixed up inside

What I truly want to tell you, i’m afraid from you all i’ll have to hide

When my next travelling adventure beckons i do not know when

I hope and trust you won’t mind hearing from me again.

Global State of Play

THERE ARE MANY KEYS TO OUR WORLD

BUT SOME DOORS SHOULD REMAIN CLOSED

NOWADAYS THEY BEGIN TO UNFURL

WITH MANY OF US LEFT COMATOSED

BY A WAR THAT HAS BEGUN

NOT AMONGST COUNTRIES AGAINST EACH OTHER

IN A BLAZE LIKE THE RISING OF A NEW SUN

WE’RE IN A WHOLE LOT OF BOTHER

NOT BY PLANES FLYING OVERHEAD

NOT BY MISSILES FALLING FROM THE SKY

BUT BY THE NEIGHBOUR WE THOUGHT WAS DEAD

BY THE NEIGHBOUR WHO ‘WOULDN’T HURT A FLY’

‘BE ON THE WATCH’ THE BIBLE TELLS US

WE DON’T KNOW THE HOUR OR THE DAY

IN THESE COMMENTS WE HAVE TO PLACE TRUST

THE WORLD AS WE KNOW IT IS ALREADY IN DECAY

ANARCHY MIGHT BE A STRONG WORD

BUT HOW FAR WILL SOME PEOPLE GO

MANKIND’S RECORD IS LOUD AND MUST BE HEARD

AN EXAMPLE OF THIS MADNESS, THEY HAVE ALREADY

SHOWN

SOME SAY RELIGION IS ONE OF THOSE ‘KEYS’

CAUSE OR CURE? THE DECISON UP TO YOU

WE SHOULD ALL BE ON OUR KNEES

PRAYING FOR AN ANSWER, FOR SOMETHING NEW

PEACE AND THE DOVE, ARE IN THE DISTANCE

A FAINT, ALMOST NEVER ENDING DREAM

WE MUST, WE HAVE TO BE PERSISTENT

FOR OUR VERY LIFE ON EARTH, IS WHAT I MEAN

SURVIVAL OF THE FITTEST NO LONGER APPLIES

THERE IS NO ESCAPE FROM THIS KIND OF WAR

MILLIONS INDISCRIMINATELY SUFFER, MANY MORE WILL DIE

NOT EVEN THE SKIES CAN SAVE US, EVEN IF WE SOAR

IS RELIGION AND OUR GOD TO BE OUR SAVIOUR, OUR SHIELD

YOUR FAITH IS YOURS TO DECIDE

BUT WHEN THE TIME COMES FOR ALL OF US TO YIELD

LET’S HOPE THERE IS A PLACE TO HIDE

CAN THIS BE STOPPED, WILL THERE BE AN END?

WE CAN’T DIFFUSE AN ALREADY EXPLODED BOMB…

WE MUST NEVER ACQUIESCE, HOWEVER, NEVER BEND

LIVE OUT OUR LIVES WITH APLOMB

MANKIND HAS SUFFERED AND SURVIVED

THROUGHOUT THOUSANDS OF YEARS

AN ANSWER IS A TRAIN WAITING TO ARRIVE

AT THE STATION THAT KNOWS NO FEAR

THAT TRAIN IS FULL OF HUMAN BEINGS

YES, GOD-FEARING, LOVING PEOPLE

LIVING LIKE WE SHOULD – LOOKING FORWARD TO SEEING

OUR CHILDREN NOT HAVING TO WALK THROUGH TREACLE

SIDESTEPPING, POISONS, GASES AND EXPLOSIONS

BECOMING OVERLY CONSCIOUS OF A RACE OR PERSONS

THAT IN ITSELF IS A TERRIFYING NOTION

THAT THEY ARE LEFT TO CAST ASPERSIONS

HUMAN NATURE CAN KICK IN

SOME SAY WE’RE FIGHTING A NEVER ENDING WAR

PATIENCE CAN BE WORN VERY THIN

AS THEY LIVE – YET ATTACK THE DEMOCRATIC CORE

A DOUBLE STANDARD, LIKE AN AGENT IN THE WW1 OR TWO

SLEEPING WITH IT’S ENEMY WITH A SMILE

THIS HAS TO BE HANDLED LIKE A COO

TO GET THEM AFAR, RUNNING A MILE..

HOPE AND TRUST IN FRIENDS, FAMILY OR YOUR FAITH

YOU HOLD IT TIGHT, LIKE MOTHER DOES A BABY GIRL

MAKING YOU FEEL COMFORTED, SOUND AND SAFE

AS YOU CONTINUE THE DAILY FIGHT, IN THE ‘WAR OF OUR

WORLD’…

Tube Traveller (the first from ‘The Tube Traveller Diaries’)

Tube Traveller (1)

All hot and sweaty
Packed like sardines
The time against you is heavy
As you race to the citidines

Herded into our mobile barns
We push shove and squeeze
Our bags rub against the finest yarns
Then we shower it with an eruptive sneeze

Not far now you say
The next stops are Bank and Moorgate
You hold on tight as tube sways
Knowing that you might now be late

It comes to a grinding halt
You crash into the finely adorned lady
Raising your hands ‘its not my fault’
It comes across as a little bit shady

She exits, more bodies come aboard
Its an endless of sea of creatures
In Paris its no better at Gare du Nord
Too many ways out is one of its redeeming features

Not to worry we continue to move
Bodies shift, sway this way and that
There’s never any time to lose
You remain standing just because the carriage is packed

You notice heads down in books
You may catch a wandering eye
You notice the odd indifferent looks
You notice the ones that avoid a smile

In their own little world
You imagine what they might think
You wander how their day will unfurl
What’s their connection to our existence-their link

The forecast for your arrival is nigh
Maybe a little faith will hold true
The possibility of being late is high
Maybe a little prayer will have to do?

So the journey continues without a mind
The city still needs to be fed
It will only reveal what you want to find
As you work while everyone is in bed…
