Friday Poetic Pointer

For the many, who at this time of year may find themselves in this predicament.

Homeless

We search high we search low

Our problems we own; confess

No need to put on a show

As we are the homeless

How did we get here

Anyone hazard a guess?

We are normal; you have nothing to fear

But we are still homeless

Out on the streets: this is our home

We try to make it our best

Finding the right place; takes time to roam

But there you have it: we’re still homeless

We locate the large shop front

Try to find warmth among the mess

When we roam we also hunt

There’s no other way when you’re homeless

The light draws in anytime soon

Ready to face the cold night-time test

Sometimes when I look at the moon

It tells me ‘your outside and your homeless’

The boxes surround me as I snuggle in

I’m not a bird; but I’m in my own nest

I don’t mind being near the bins

As I accept my status as being homeless

In the morning hope reins supreme

A Samaritan makes an offer: I say yes

On my withered, tired face a smile beams

Just maybe, I’ll no longer be homeless

I dream of this for everyone one I know

I speak from the heart; not in jest

We all need the help: tackled blow by blow

Maybe one day they’ll fewer of us homeless

Who Am I?

Today I spoke with a marketing expert about how to better manage your online profile, promoting your work and doing this in the best way possible to get the best return.

Sounds simple enough, apart from the fact that one of the key things is to tell any visitors to my website/blog more about me, so they will glean from this this what they are here for.

So to this end I have updated my ‘about me’ or my ‘about J W Nelson’ sections in an effort to give readers, viewers the option to quickly know about me and what i want to achieve.

Please check out the above sections and let me know if its any good! And to help with knowing more about me – here is a little ditty…

ALL ABOUT ME…

Why not I’m a writer

I don’t box, so I’m no fighter

Like to boogie when I get chance

And by the way it means I like to dance

Like being happy and never sad

My occupation is being more than a dad

Never naughty so no ending up in court

Enjoy going to the gym and playing many sports

Enjoy the taste of food, especially spiced lamb

Yes, I’m the man from the Midlands – Yes that’s Birmingham

No hiding in my family of six

Growing up was like a certain film – maybe the Matrix?

The blue pill guided my path, my life

Doors opened, I found a job and my wife

The red pill meant having a boy and a girl

Precocious little blighters, make up our small world

I have always wanted to write

To have the ability to excite

Involve, stimulate and entertain

That’s the target, that is my gain

Hello from ‘Me’ – a poetic set piece about me and who I am and try to be.

In memory of the longest serving monarch in British history here is one way to remember our Elizabeth – “The Queen of all Hearts”

70 years later we are ready for another celebration. A date set for all the of the uk. A time to come together a one nation. This is my small take for a poetic viewpoint.

Windfall/Rush

74 years ago today the UK asked for help from the commonwealth to help rebuild the country Great Britain after the 2nd world war. The Jamaicans who responded to the call had no idea what they were sailing into as they arrived on the ‘Windrush’.

Many people i know knew people who came on that earlier transport and the struggle that begin for everyone since. A small gesture maybe now is displayed at Waterloo station in London to commentate and remind us all of what was and still is sacrificed considering the poor treatment of many of those who answered that call and hopefully still remain here in the UK today.

Here is my simple poetic piece on this topic of, endurance, patience, belief and the ultimate continuation to try at and go for triumph over the odds.

Windfall /Rush

They asked for our help
And we answered that call
Our mothers and fathers took their leave
Being sold the idea of a windfall

They travelled across the seas
Seeking a new future for all
Working tirelessly for the last 74 years
Still wondering where is that windfall

And now after all this time
The governing hands have ‘dropped the ball’
Losing our parental identification we ask how?
So is it time to forget about that windfall?

With honesty and integrity our parents left their homes
Diligent, and obedient working across buses, trains, and shopping malls
Helping to build a life in Britain now their home
Shouldn’t those in charge be now handing out that Windfall?

Anyone working for so long after being asked to help
Should not be treated with such shameful contempt
I truly hope our Windrush generation
Get that windfall and a message of apologies needs to be sent…

The Bond Poetic – Episode 1.4 ‘ Thunder & Balls’

The fourth episode in the Poetic series sees 007 take to new ‘depths’ to save the world once again in 1965…

(This and all episodes of the Bond Poetic are available as a Podcast (via Anchor/Spotify) and available on other podcast platforms like Apple and Google.)

Thunder and Balls

The years roll on and Bond is still alive

‘Awake Mr Bond’ to the Thunderball

The year is set; its now 1965

Will James answer the call?

MI6’s nemesis remains alert

Spectre have stolen the atomic prize

No time for Bond to ‘chase the skirt’

Focus now: on Spectre’s timely demise

To escape from his latest tight spot

Finally Q delivers Bond tech in style

Remaining cool; never hot

Bond raises the stakes and flies

Into the Caribbean delights

Into the den of Mr Largo

$100 million is in his sights

Has Bond immunity against Ms Domino?

The world is on the brink

That ransom has to be paid

They need a ‘boat’ that won’t sink

Underwater is where the battle will be played

In widescreen view you did see

Leiter support the mercurial Bond

Fleming’s heroes fight the enemy

No time for fear or to abscond

A first time aquatic leads the way

Largo knows the waters below

The Bond/Leiter combo manages to hold sway

Our enemy gets a hit and a blow

Miami is the final location

On board Domino gets her sweet payback

Largo retires on a permanent vacation

There’s no need to continue the attack

Into the arms of Bond does she fall?

M, surely would not approve

Maybe this once for saving the Thunderball

You can’t stop 007 when he’s in the groove…

My 12 Days of Christmas…

The Partridge is stuck in a tree

What should we do?

Sing a song, get down one knee?

I could swear I did see two

—-

Oops, sorry that was the Turtle Doves

Yes, there are two of those

Christmas is something everyone loves

Some Turkey and garlic of cloves?

—-

Non! Say the French.

It has to be the trois hens

Don’t agree, be left on the bench

Watch them eat; only through your lens

—-

No fear though,

The four birds outside are calling

Joined by a man, saying, ho, ho, ho

On a sleigh, in the sky, now falling

—-

You throw him five golden rings

Santa needs presents too

Bet you didn’t know he can really sing

There’s so much more he can do

—-

Work his magic on the geese

All six of them lay eggs

The golden ovals represent signs of peace

At this time; no one should ever need to beg

—-

But the water is cold

And the seven swans keep swimming

Wrap up warm, don’t be bold

And your cupboards will be brimming

—-

The eight maids will provide the milk

There’s plenty to go around

Frankincense is replaced by silk

Your footing is now solid, sound

—-

As you celebrate this time of year

And watch nine ladies dance

The ones you love for and care

Surround us and join in the prance

—-

On tiptoes so you can join in

In the circle with the ten lords leaping

Did they have a few shots of Gin?

No, its okay, its all part of the meeting

—-

Moving and swaying to the piper’s tune

The eleven pipe as best they can

Sometime, later that afternoon

They heard the beat of the drumming man

—-

Twelve to be exact

Drumming, drum, drum

Twelve days is a long time to keep up this act

So I say to you all; just go out and have some fun!

THE BOND POETIC SERIES (VOL 1 S.C.)

THE FIRST IN THE SERIES (COVERING THE BOND MOVIES), my own poetic version starting with the first movie… more to come..

  1. NO Way…

It was an EON ago when it began

Nineteen sixty-two I believe

Broccoli and Saltzman had a plan

And there he was Mr. Sean Connery

From the pen of Mr. Fleming

Films that set the spy world alight

Cinema goers followed the sparkle like lemmings

Off the cliff of entertainment, into the night

In Jamaica an inspired Fleming wrote

They filmed Dr. No there

The exotic location was worthy of note

The choice, like Bond, was a dare

Bond fought ‘the hand’ of crime

Used the tricks of the trade

Ursula shone like a coin, a dime

Beauty met beauty; in Jamaica it was made

With action, pace and the one liner

Delivered to the enemy and the viewer

Followed by the baddie with a shiner

As Bond sat in a bow tie, eating from a skewer

With a nod and a wink

Good triumphs over evil

Facing the barrel of a Walther also makes one think

About not reneging on paying your bill

The bill for SPECTRE is a high one

Only 007 can guarantee payment

Supported by Ryder their work is done

Now it’s time to send the statement

With Dr No. dead in the pool

Bond can get his hand on;

Cuddling Honey Rider as calm and as cool

Then sail away to safety; to the Bond theme song…

School – It makes you think…

When I think of going to school
I think about not breaking rules
To think of things that are nice and good
I do think about my school: my neighbourhood
—-
To think of all our teachers that help
We should think & behave; so there’s no need to yelp
Thoughts of playing with our friends
Thinking of a time when we can meet again
—-
Thinking today of our school year
Thinking of my parents worries and fears
I can think that soon this time will end
I can think of home school: that email to send
—-
Thinking of what I really long for
Thinking I really want to learn more
Thinking of the laughing and squealing
Thinking; how is everyone feeling?
—-
Thinking of getting back to my school
Thinking of all the things that make it cool
I think I like the reading and numbers best
I think I we will all pass this test
—-
I do think we will find the time
I’m thinking this as I write this rhyme
My thoughts won’t put you on the brink
I just know how School makes me think…

Stage 3 ‘Readily..’ (for the season) Day 16

ticking-along

Time to get your things

Time to pray and give thanks

Time now for the choir to sing

Time to make those xmas plans

Time to figure out if you believe

Time to remain above the fray

Time to give and hopefully receive

Time to celebrate The Christmas Day?
