Fools Company? How does your company fare?…

See below an excerpt from the book Company of Fools – a comedy drama, with a hint of romance (if you can call it that) available on amazon as a paperback or e-book.

This is the story of one man’s genuine quest to find love, a good job and maybe start a family. His name Justin Whalley. The book is written in the first person as Justin regales his various attempts to obtain or keep one or more of his ‘life goals’.

The random excerpt is from the first page I turned to when opening the novel. Halfway through chapter 9.

“Walking through the cemetery at this early hour frightened me a little. It was winter and still dark, yet the liquid spirit made me feel brave.

Stumbling through the grave yard, I struggled to navigate where my mother’s grave stone could be. Going once a month still left me confused, feeling that I never truly knew where to look, when so many headstones looked familiar. Somehow, the cemetery always seemed different to me. Maybe the drink was having an effect.

The wind calmly whistled through the dense trees that surround the cemetery. I walked following a narrow path and then cut across some grass. This was ridiculous, I couldn’t see a damn thing.

Taking each step slowly, I then found no solid ground. My whole body careered forward and downward. I screamed at the top of my voice.

There I was falling into what must be a newly dug eight foot deep grave. I landed hands first, then body. Flat out. once I regained my my senses, I turned to face, looking upward out of the grave. The darkness seemed to be swirling, moving as though some creature had just thrown me in.

I stood up and dusted myself down and immediately started to call for help.

‘Help! Help! Can anybody hear me?’ Of course no one replied.

I tried one or two more attempts to leap upward but the depth was too steep. Well that’s what I thought. Without warning, down there in the depths of this new grave , a voice spoke to me. ‘Don’t bother mate, I’ve been here all night and can’t get out’.

You’ve never heard a scream ort yell like it. My throat was sore from that yelling and screaming and boy oh boy, when I thought eight feet was too high, I could have jumped three or four times that if I had to.

I don’t know how, but I found a spring that allowed me to escape what could only be described as a spiritual experience, in some way. I know some people have the power to talk to the dead, but this was too close a call”.

The Bond Poetic – All about Bond (007)

Here is a Poetic summary of the 24 James Bond films thus far (as we’re currently being entertained by film no 25 ‘No Time to Die’. (I’m hoping to see it this weekend)

You can view all 24 Bond Poetic poems (one per film from Dr No in 1962 to Spectre) on this blog or listen them on my podcast – https://anchor.fm/horace-evans8

ALL About BOND (007)

Fleming took to the sun

In a place that is heaven

To the island of beauty and fun

Where he wrote about that spy: 007
——

When the films were made

John Barry and his team knew the score

The memorable horn and wind serenade

Left us all wanting more and more
——–

It didn’t take EONs to get the party started

Sean Connery took to the lead role

Cinema goers and their cash departed

Creating a film fever that swept the globe
——-

From the doctor that always said ‘No’

To Ursula who shone like a dime

Who knew where the films would go

As Bond ‘wrestled with ‘the hand ‘ of crime
——-

007 gets wrapped up in a Russian triangle

The clerk loves him and her home

Kleb ‘points’ and dances to make Bond dangle

Then it’s time to do what they do in Rome
——-

Bond is faced with a man he can’t deny

Gold is his drug; his fix

Odd Job is strong; but he gets fried

Auric is sucked out; and into the mix

——-

And now the SPECTRE of games begin

This time Largo is bold and upfront

Bond with help ensures they don’t win

It required a very watery stunt

——–
Bond looks dead; but wait he’s reborn

He heads to Japan for an assist

When it’s the right time he’ll blow his horn

Forcing SPECTRE to cease and desist

——–
Are diamonds the forever jewel?

Bond soon learns what this means

Fighting Spectre is unusual and cruel

But 007 seems to get away clean
——

A new Bond does his serves majestic

He faces 12 angels of death

His time is fractious and hectic

As his beloved draws her last breath…

—–

The fans then asked for Moore

Roger wanted to Live & Let and Let Die

Mr Big is the enemy for sure

As Kanaga explodes into pieces of a pie

——-
Gold is back on the scene

A Gun with nuggets that kill

The mirrors reflect a face to be gleamed

Scaramanga ends up paying his bill

——
Will Bond fall for the Russian charm?

Spies are not the type to trust

They work well; she means no harm

Let’s hope the mission isn’t a bust

—–
Fly Bond to the moon…

No time to play with the stars

007 plans Drax’s end; and soon

As Jaws and Dolly don’t make the bar

Bond only has Eyes; for You

Gogol has plans in mind as well

The ATAC system ensures a right to-do

The time has come to ring the bell

——-
You can’t go wrong with eight legs

It’s not the same however for 007

A circus; a bomb; what question does it beg

Answer; they want to blow you up to heaven

The Duran Duran theme put us on the sill

Moore’s last outing; as slick as oil

Standing tall – looking at a View to a Kill

Another device is set explode and boil

Tim Dalton likes Living in the Daylight

Koskov likes to trick and deceive

Pushkin and Whitaker will perish tonight

As 007 has a few ’Q’ tricks up his sleeve

Gladys Knight has a License and will

Bond has revenge for Lieter in mind

Become a hitman – a contract to kill

Sanchez is sought out – Bond makes the find

——–

A new Bond enters the fray

Golden Eye is his first real test

Pierce as 007 fights for England without delay

Trevelyan ensures Bond works at his best

——-
Now Tomorrow arrives on time

Bond and Wai Lin fight for mankind

Carver has a story; it’s a tight deadline

The British fleet leave Carver going blind

Cheryl says the World is Not Enough

Reynard believes this to be true

007 has to get a little rough

With time running out & so much to do

Two faces belong to one man

The General’s dead son reappears

Bond doesn’t know the true global plan

But makes sure they end up in tears

——

Craig takes on the Royal reins

Gambling on poking the bear

Le Chiffre takes all of the pain

Mr. White is the man to fear

—–
There’s no time for Solace

In any Quantum of time

Greene is the one hurling malice

And now his life walks out of line

Bond returns to his Skyfall

Silva takes him back to the start

M comes up short; not that tall

007 aims with an axe to the heart

——
The reveal shows SPECTRE; ESB

The author of Bonds pain

A final fight occurs over the sea

Will we get to see ‘that cat’ ever again?

The 25th episode is out now

What will Bond have to face?

“Embracing Fatherhood”…(a Podcast Interview with Solomon Tention & JW Nelson – and others)

As we are in Black History month – what does mean to be a father of colour? You could its the same as most other fathers. However looking at at from a personal viewpoint – most Caribbean men my age – their grand parents ere not around in the UK. Maybe your uncles were not either. Plus my parents were in a ‘new country’ here in the UK having left their homes in Jamaica.

What this means I that the ‘extended family’ that say other family who history is from England – will have local aunties, uncles, grandparents maybe nearby. I didn’t and many black father’s won’t either.

It just means there is ‘more weight’ for us to carry as ‘Black fathers’ in a world as we know is difficult for black people to navigate anyway. (for more evidence of this I encourage anyone of any colour to read Michael Holdings thought provoking book : Why We Kneel – How we Rise.

The Bond Poetic – Episode 1.23 – ‘Falling from the Sky’

Daniel Craig as 007 stars in the biggest grossing Bond movie ever – over $1billion in sales and its also my personal favourite of the last two decades (plus Goldfinger). The storyline still links together from the previous two films (loosely) and another spike form M’s past comes back to haunt MI6 is spectacular fashion

All episodes of the Bond Poetic are available as a Podcast (via Anchor/Spotify) and available on other podcast platforms like Apple and Google.)

Bond to the rescue -this time without his cape

It’s time to leave the breadcrumbs as a trail

Silva can’t resist eating them up

M, Mallory and Q set the bail

A fiery mood is ready to be served in a cup

Back to his birthright place

Skyfall is now set alight

How much more can Bond take

As he follows Silva deep into the night

At the cemetery where his parents lay

M, injured makes her final call

Silva is ‘axed’ from the ensuing play

Bond says a ‘farewell’ to his very own Skyfall…

The Bond Poetic – Episode 1.22 – ‘Is there Solace in any Quantum’

Quantum is Daniel Craig’s second outing as 007 – a change in focus for the bond films more action and drama rather than a focus on nifty gadgets from Q. This played into Daniel Craig’s demeanour in this stunt filled actioner.
